Bar chart of 2025 wind capacity additions: Saudi Arabia 1,512 MW, other markets about 580 MW, Morocco 261 MW and Egypt 243 MW, from GWEC.

Correction, 13 October 2026: Saudi Arabia's share of 2025 regional wind additions was 57.8 percent, not four in five.

The numbers are in for 2025. One country drove almost three in every five new wind megawatts across Africa and the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia added 1,512 MW of new wind capacity in 2025, up 287% from the year before, and accounted for 57.8% of all Africa-Middle East additions that hit the grid. The regional total reached 2.6 GW added, a 32% jump on 2024.

Morocco added 261 MW. My read is that the GCC, led by Saudi NREP, has become the volume engine. North Africa is still the larger installed base, with Egypt at 3.1 GW cumulative and Morocco at 2.6 GW cumulative, but we think the next wave is shifting east.

GWEC’s regional forecast is 35 GW of new wind across Africa and the Middle East between 2026 and 2030. GWEC expects the Middle East to take 53% of that.
